The Met, Leeds is located right in the centre of Leeds. The city of Leeds is a popular visitor destination for its shopping and nightlife, its cultural attractions and sporting heritage, and its business district and university, all of which can be easily reached by guests staying at the Leeds Met Hotel.
For shopping, visitors are spoilt for choice. There is a lot of retail therapy to be had in Leeds, and a walk through the centre of the city will reveal an extraordinary array of shops. For premium designer names the Victoria Quarter is the place to go, with major brands such as Louis Vuitton, Mulberry and Agent Provocateur housed within the historic Victorian arcades. The Light is a shopping and leisure complex, with bars, restaurants, a multiplex cinema, health club and a great selection of high street and designer stores.
Culturally, Leeds has several historic and family-orientated attractions close to The Metropole Hotel. For example, the Royal Armouries will entertain both families and those with an interest in military history. The Armouries hold a massive collection of armour and weapons, and hold shows and displays of traditional armed combat such as jousting and gunmaking. Conversely, Thackray Medical Museum comprehensively explores the way in which doctors have attempted to keep people alive throughout history. Gruesome in parts, and entertainingly informative, the Thackray Museum is a great day out. A more gentle attraction suitable for children is Tropical World in Roundhay Park. Essentially a small zoo, Tropical World contains a range of insects, fish, birds and small mammals in a number of diverse habitats. The performing arts are also well represented in Leeds, with venues including the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds Grand Theatre and the City Varieties Theatre all showing a great programme of events throughout the year.
Leeds also has a proud sporting tradition, housing a number of premier teams across several different fields such as Leeds Rhinos RFC, who dominated rugby league as international champions in 2008. The Rhinos share their home ground of Headingley Carnegie Stadium with Leeds Carnegie rugby union team and Yorkshire County Cricket Club. Leeds’ other famous sporting ground is of course Elland Road, home of Leeds United FC.
